Dr. Jan Goldman is Professor of Intelligence and Security Studies at The Citadel. His research areas focus on ethics and intelligence operations, secrecy, intelligence analysis, psychological operations, intelligence in civil society, and intelligence education. He has over 25 years experience working in the U.S. intelligence community. He taught for many years at the National Intelligence University (formally known as the National Defense Intelligence College) and the FBI Academy at Quantico, Virginia. He is the organizer for several international academic and professional intelligence conferences held at Johns Hopkins University, Georgetown University, and Oxford University.
He is currently the editor-in-chief of the highly respected International Journal of Intelligence and CounterIntelligence; the founding editor for professional textbooks - Security Professionals Intelligence Education Series (S.P.I.E.S. at Rowman and Littlefield Publishers); a member of several academic, research and publishing advisory boards; co-founder of the non-profit International Intelligence Ethics Association; and the founding editor of the International Journal of Intelligence Ethics.
He is the author or editor of numerous publications to include, as a co-author, Intelligence and Information Policy for National Security: Key Terms and Concepts (Rowman & Littlefield, 2017). His two-volume The Central Intelligence Agency: An Encyclopedia of Covert Operations, Intelligence Gathering, and Spies (ABC-CLIO, 2016) honored as Editors' Top Community College Resources award and the Best Reference Title award of 2016; and War on Terror Encyclopedia: From the Rise of Al Qaeda to 9/11 and Beyond (ABC-CLIO, 2015).
Dr. Goldman is an internationally recognized expert on ethics and intelligence, and the only intelligence analyst to be awarded “current and warning intelligence expert” at the Defense Intelligence Agency.
