Simpsonville cadet receives top engineering scholarship

Cadet Steven Joseph Fulmer of Simpsonville, S.C., is the 2007 recipient of the prestigious Col. Loring K. Himelright Scholarship presented by The Citadel School of Engineering during Homecoming festivities.

Fulmer, a civil engineering major, was lauded for his exemplary academic record – he has earned Gold Stars four times and Dean’s List recognition twice.

Fulmer, a graduate of Hillcrest High School, is currently serving as secretary of the Tau Beta Pi National Engineering Honor Society Citadel chapter and is the professional activities event student chairman of the Citadel chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). In addition, he was selected as the recipient of the Harry M. Mims Scholarship for his performance and interest in transportation and highway engineering.

As Lima Company commander, Cadet Fulmer is responsible for the health, morale, welfare, academic proficiency, military training, intramural athletics, administrative efficiency, safety, and discipline of the cadets in his company. Other leadership positions in the South Carolina Corps of Cadets in which he has served include company first sergeant, regimental operations clerk, and battalion operations clerk.

Fulmer is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Benson Fulmer of Simpsonville.
