Patricia Kinard named Employee of the Year

Patricia M. Kinard, administrative assistant in the president’s office and liaison to the Board of Visitors, has been named The Citadel’s Employee of the Year.

Employee of the Year Patricia Kinard and the nominees will be recognized at a reception from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Friday in the Regimental Commanders Riverview Room. It is open to all on campus.

Kinard and the other nominees for Employee of the Year will be recognized at a reception and during Friday’s military dress parade. In addition three retiring professors will be recognized at parade. They are:

  • Philip W. Leon, English, 28 years
  • Grant B. Staley, Modern Languages, 35 years
  • Barbara Zaremba, Center for Academic Enrichment, 12 years.

The first Employee of the Year award was presented in 1992 to publicly recognize staff for superior performance.

Kinard has been at The Citadel since July 2004.

The employee recognition committee cited Kinard for dedication to excellent service through her personal approach to cadets, her ability to diffuse emotional parents or alumni though caring conversations, and going above and beyond for guests and visitors to the college.

Her nomination states she regularly performs beyond the call of duty and volunteered to help with the presidential inauguration, commencement and annual Brigadier Foundation Auction. Kinard also is a volunteer at her church where she is the financial secretary, leader of a women’s group, member of the social committee and Sunday school teacher for 3-year-old children.

Nominees are judged on several points: performance beyond the call of duty, extra effort put forth to exemplify professionalism and dedication to service, outstanding contributions to the college or department and specific or sustained accomplishments that exceed normal expectation.

Other nominees this year were:
First runner-up Susan Redmond, Commandant of Cadets
Second runner-up Judy D. Hagen, School of Education
Sgt. Maj. Sylvan B. Bauer Jr., Commandant of Cadets
Jeffrey Price, Admissions
Darlene Poston, Athletics
Carla McIntyre, Construction Management
Alice Hambright, School of Education
Elaine Singletary, Math and Computer Science
Libby O. Walker, English
