Colonel Paul J. O’Leary Jr was commissioned a second lieutenant through the Platoon Leaders Class (PLC) program.

Col O’Leary’s command assignments have included tours as: Commanding Officer, Battery D, 2nd Battalion, 12th Marines, Okinawa, Japan; Commanding Officer, 2nd Battalion 11th Marine Regiment, Camp Pendleton, CA; Commanding Officer, 14th Marine Regiment, Fort Worth, TX; and Commander, Education Command, Quantico, VA.

Col O’Leary’s staff assignments have included tours as: Assistant Operations Officer, 2nd Battalion, 11th Marines; Battalion Liaison Officer, 2nd Battalion, 11th Marines; Tactical Systems Requirements Officer, MAGTF Warfighting Center, Quantico, VA; G-3 Current Operations Watch Officer, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, CA; Operations Officer, 2nd Battalion 11th Marines, Camp Pendleton, CA; Executive Officer, 2nd Battalion, 11th Marines, Camp Pendleton, CA; Senior Operations Officer, National Military Command Center, Pentagon; Executive Assistant to Deputy Director for Current Operations (J-33), Pentagon; N-5 Plans Officer/Force Marine, Amphibious Group One, Okinawa, Japan; Assistant Chief of Staff G-5 Plans, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, NC; Chief of Staff, Marine Corps University, Quantico VA; Board Member, Secretary of Navy Council of Review, Washington, DC.

Col O’Leary is a graduate of the Amphibious Warfare School; Marine Corps Command and Staff College; and a Distinguished Graduate of the US Naval War College. He has a Master of Science in Systems Technology from the Naval Postgraduate School and Master of Strategic Studies from the US Naval War College.

Col O’Leary’s personal decorations include the Legion of Merit with 2 gold stars; Bronze Star with Combat Distinguishing Valor device; Defense Meritorious Service Medal; Meritorious Service Medal with 2 gold stars; Joint Service Commendation Medal; Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal with 2 gold stars; Joint Service Achievement Medal with 2 gold stars; Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Somalia); and Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal (Iraq).
