Dr. Megan Moyer

Prior to arriving at The Citadel, Dr. Moyer was an Assistant Professor in the Chemistry department at Carthage College where she taught General Chemistry I and II, associated labs, and co-taught Advanced Synthesis Laboratory for chemistry majors. At The Citadel, she teaches General Chemistry and Inorganic Chemistry. Her first true inspiration on the path to becoming a chemist was taking undergraduate Inorganic, and she hopes to inspire the same love of the subject in her students.

Dr. Moyer’s primary research interests include the synthesis of metal organic framework (MOF) materials and highly ordered porous carbons derived from them. She is applying these materials as potential filters for environmental applications: cleaner water, microplastic remediation, and particulate separations from air. Her undergraduate research students have presented their work on the national scale at American Chemical Society conferences as well as regional conferences. She is always looking for new students interested in research, including those with chemistry, engineering, or environmental science backgrounds. If you would like to learn more, please contact her via email or in her office.

Dr. Moyer strongly believes that one of the best ways to learn chemistry is working hands on, and teaching the subject to others. She has volunteered for summer STEM camps working with middle school girls, identifying contaminants in local water sources with elementary students, and has judged science fairs for a variety of age-levels.

If you would like to talk about chemistry, want to discuss research opportunities, have ideas for community outreach, or simply want to chat, Dr. Moyer can be found in her office, 413 Byrd Hall. She looks forward to meeting you!
