Professional Selling Pathway

What is professional selling and why is it so important?

Often when a student thinks of a salesman, they envision someone with a pushy, high-energy, wheeler-and-dealer personality interested in nothing but making the transaction itself. No picture could be farther from the truth. While making sales is crucial to any company’s well-being, in Professional Selling, the salesman is interested in building a client relationship and establishing long lasting roots. A professional salesman is deeply interested in bringing the customer added value to their organization also. By developing these ethical long-term relationships, a professional salesman brings value to his own company as well.

The School of Business' Professional Selling Pathway guides students to explore the many career opportunities available by exposing them to the many aspects of professional selling through academic study, extracurricular activities and internships. Students pursuing the Professional Selling Pathway are encouraged to join and explore networking opportunities made available through the program.

What can I do with a career in professional selling?

Pursuing a career in Professional Selling offers many opportunities to today’s students. Whether you become an account executive for a manufacturing corporation managing a select number of clients with varying needs or perhaps a lead benefits officer organizing contributions for your favorite non-profit charity, the Professional Selling Pathway offers a multitude of careers to choose from. You may even employ your creative abilities behind the sales line to develop and sell eye-catching media materials. Understanding what the customer needs and what will catch the client’s attention are all a part of the Professional Selling Pathway.
