Regimental Band and Pipes to perform for community

The Citadel's Regimental Band and Pipes will perform its spring concert at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2008, in McAlister Field House. The concert is free and open to the public.

The concert will feature a variety of musical selections from Sousa and British marches to patriotic songs and the sounds of the Big Band jazz era. This year, the Regimental Band’s drum line will present a Drum Corps style performance and the pipes and drums will be featured performers.

The Regimental Band and Pipes has been a part of The Citadel tradition of duty, pride and excellence since 1909. The sounds of bagpipes were first heard at The Citadel in 1955.

The Regimental Band and Pipes function as a single cadet company. The Regimental Band is made up of about 70 cadet musicians while the pipe and drums have between 30 and 35 members each year.

Both groups play an important role in cadet life, performing during the Friday afternoon dress parades, daily bugler duty and regular participation at athletic events, the annual Christmas Candlelight Service and numerous other campus and community events and formal ceremonies.
