Palmetto Battery and Alpha Co. honored

Palmetto Battery and Alpha Company have received top honors for academic achievement within the South Carolina Corps of Cadets. The companies were recognized during the Sept. 27 dress parade.

The Gen. Charles P. Summerall Cup was presented to Palmetto Battery.  The Summerall Cup is donated by the European Citadel Association and is awarded annually to the cadet company with the best academic achievement. Cadet Capt. Raymond A. Kuderka III, company commander, accepted the cup on Palmetto Battery's behalf.

The Milton A. Pearlstine award is presented annually by The Citadel Alumni Association in honor of its namesake, Citadel Class of 1919 and former association president. It recognizes the cadet company achieving the highest freshmen class grade point ratio for the previous school year. Accepting the award on Palmetto Battery's behalf was Cadet 2nd Lt. Robert G. Fuller, platoon leader.

The Murray D. Bonnoitt Award is presented annually in honor of its namesake, Citadel Class of 1962 and former alumni association president. It honors the cadet company achieveing the highest freshman class retention rate for the previous school year. This year's recipient is Alpha Company. Accepting the award on the company's behalf was Cadet Capt. Brandon Wilkins, Alpha company commander.
