Award recipients, Star of the West winner honored
Awards were presented to six cadets during Thursday's military dress parade. Among them was the Star of the West medal winner. The Star of the West competition was held Thursday afternoon. It was one of several commencement week activities.
The award recipients salute during the playing of the National Anthem at Thursday's awards review.
The award is given annually for the best-drilled cadet whose name is engraved on the Star of the West monument near the flagpole on Summerall Field.

Congressional Medal of Honor Society Award
The Congressional Medal of Honor Society Award is presented annually to the graduating first-class (senior) cadet considered the most outstanding in the performance of Corps of Cadets and military activities and will be commissioned into the armed forces. The commandant of cadets and the professors of the aerospace studies and military and naval science departments pick the recipient.

Wade Hampton Saber
The Wade Hampton Saber is awarded annually by the South Carolina Division of the United Daughters of the Confederacy to the first-class (senior) cadet who demonstrates outstanding leadership and who makes the greatest contribution to The Citadel while a cadet.

William Porcher Dubose Award
The award is presented annually by the General Organization of the United Daughters of the Confederacy to the first honor graduate in memory of Cadet Dubose, who was a citizen soldier, first honor graduate and ranking cadet in the Class of 1855.

Society of the Daughters of American Colonists Silver Bowl Award
The award is presented annually to a graduating cadet with the best conduct and discipline record during his or her time at The Citadel.
Board of Visitors Trophy
The award is presented annually to the cadet company that wins the regimental intramural championship.
Cadet Col. Timothy A. Devine, Regimental Commander
The General William Moultrie Sons of the American Revolution Army Sword
The award is presented annually by the Sons of the American Revolution to the most outstanding cadet to be commissioned into the U.S. Army. The sword is awarded in recognition of the superior academic and leadership skills demonstrated by the recipient throughout his or her four years at The Citadel.

The North Carolina Society of the Order of Founders and Patriots Award
The award is presented annually to the cadet who through his activities both within and outside the Corps of Cadets and through superior historical scholarship, best exemplifies an understanding of and a respect for the founding forefathers, the Revolutionary patriots and the sacrifices made by them and those defending the nation.
