FACE-TO-FACE<\/strong><\/strong><\/td>A course in which 100% of the course contact hours meet face-to-face on campus or at an institutionally approved location.<\/td>Face-to-Face indicates that the faculty and all the students registered for the class are in the same physical location at the same time.
Methods of instruction are direct instruction using active learning strategies or lab-based.<\/td>		LEC<\/strong> \u2013 Lecture
LAB<\/strong> \u2013 Lab
LL<\/strong> \u2013 Lecture Lab -primarily Health Sciences (Nursing) or Studio courses
LC<\/strong> \u2013 Lab Clinical
LLC<\/strong> \u2013 Lecture Lab Clinical<\/td><\/tr>
ONLINE ASYNCHRONOUS<\/strong><\/td>A course in which instruction is conducted solely online within The Citadel\u2019s approved learning management system (Canvas).<\/td>Students complete coursework asynchronously, meaning not at the same time, but within deadlines.<\/td>OAS<\/strong> \u2013 Online Asynchronous<\/td><\/tr>
ONLINE SYNCHRONOUS<\/strong><\/td>An online course that meets at the same time for the entire duration of the course as indicated in the class schedule.<\/td>Faculty are required to use The Citadel\u2019s approved video-conferencing tool (Zoom) to deliver instruction, work with groups of students, or conduct seminars.<\/td>OSY<\/strong> \u2013 Online Synchronous<\/td><\/tr>
HYBRID<\/strong><\/td>A course where all students meet 50% face-to-face on campus or at an institutionally approved location and 50% online, asynchronously.<\/td><\/td>HYB<\/strong> – Hybrid<\/td><\/tr>
HI-FLEX<\/strong><\/td>A course in which a combination of students meets either face-to-face or online synchronously.<\/td>100% of the course contact hours meet either face-to-face on campus, at an institutionally approved location, or online.
The faculty member will teach on-campus or at an institutionally approved location.
Faculty will simultaneously use The Citadel\u2019s approved video-conferencing tool (Zoom) to deliver instruction, work with groups of students, or conduct seminars.
In coordination with the instructor, students choose at the beginning of the semester which modality works best for them, either face-to-face or online.
This modality is for graduate courses.<\/td>		FLX<\/strong> \u2013 Hi-Flex<\/td><\/tr>
CLINICAL OR INTERNSHIP<\/strong><\/td>A course that represents any official or formal program to provide practical work experience for beginners in an occupation or profession.<\/td>The experience of the students for a clinical or internship is expected to be face-to-face at a work site.<\/td>INT<\/strong> \u2013 Internship
CLN<\/strong> \u2013 Clinical Experience in Health Sciences<\/td><\/tr>
PRACTICUM<\/strong><\/td>A course, especially one in a specialized field of study, which is designed to give students supervised practical application of previously studied theory.<\/td>A practicum is structured practical experience in a professional program, supervised by a practitioner and\/or faculty member with whom the student works closely.
The students do most of their learning on the ground- at an approved practicum site.<\/td>		PRC<\/strong> – Practicum<\/td><\/tr>
RESEARCH<\/strong><\/td>An approved learning experience that allows students to earn credit outside of a traditional classroom setting.<\/td>Students are guided by a faculty member in independent research projects.<\/td>RES<\/strong> – Research<\/td><\/tr>
THESIS<\/strong><\/td>A thesis is a compilation of research that proves the student is knowledgeable about the information learned throughout a graduate program.<\/td>It is normally done one-on-one with a faculty advisor with no lecture component.
The delivery modality is determined by an agreement between the faculty and the student.<\/td>		THE<\/strong> – Thesis<\/td><\/tr>
INDEPENDENT STUDY<\/strong><\/td>An approved learning experience that allows students to earn credit outside of a traditional classroom.<\/td>Students will be guided by an instructor but do not take classes with other students in a traditional classroom setting.
