Department of Health and Human Performance receives grant<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Department of Health and Human Performance received $5 million from the Department of Defense through a Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs grant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Citadel, led by Professor of Health and Human Performance Dena Garner<\/a>, is working in conjunction with the University of Rochester, the State University of New York at Buffalo, Indiana University, and Boston Children\u2019s Hospital. Garner is a lead investigator in the study, titled “Monitoring and Mitigation of Neurologic Injuries to Optimize Resilience After Repetitive Head Impacts.” Each participating institution received a four-year grant to pursue this research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt is a tremendous honor for me and The Citadel to be involved in this study,\u201d said Garner. \u201cIt is an extraordinary opportunity to work alongside the top researchers within the field of concussion to study the physiological changes that occur with repetitive head impacts in athletes.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
