Order of the Engineer Induction<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

On Jan. 30, senior cadets, veterans, active duty, and evening students came together to join the esteemed Order of the Engineer. Established in 1970, the Order of the Engineer is an association for graduating and professional engineers, which emphasizes the importance and responsibility of engineers. Former Electrical and Computer Engineering Department Head John Peeples, Ph.D., \u201970<\/a>, gave the keynote address and then read out the Order of the Engineer Obligation. Cadets were then presented their rings by department heads.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

On Feb. 18, Local Girl Scout troops participated in Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day hosted by The Citadel\u2019s Society of Women Engineers. Cadets led participants through a series of projects, including building a car that runs on balloon power and making a structurally sound Barbie Dream Home.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Visiting Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering Dan Nale<\/a> introduced Cadet Blayne Aycock and evening transfer student Tom Morrison to the S.C. Aeronautics Commission Conference members. Aycock and Morrison are working on a senior capstone project on South Carolina airport infrastructure.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering Deirdre Ragan’s<\/a> senior year course is collaborating with Patricia McArver Public Speaking Lab Director Sean Fourney, Ph.D.<\/a> to elevate their communication and presentation skills. Having tackled the challenge of designing solutions within resource limitations and specific customer parameters, the student teams are now adapting their messaging to resonate with different audiences.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Students in Electrical Laboratory I, led by Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering Greg Mazzaro<\/a>, completed the Linear Superposition laboratory experiment. In this lab, students observe the consequences of multiple electrical sources applied simultaneously to the same circuit. Through this process, ECE students begin to understand how multiple signals can exist within the same electrical circuit.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Sophomores in Electrical Laboratory I completed the Direct-Current Measurements laboratory experiment in the electronics laboratory. This lab is the first of about 30 experiments that students will perform in their three-course Electrical Lab sequence. Associate Professor Greg Mazzaro coached the students to generate DC voltages and to measure the flow of electricity through two different circuits.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
