Alumnus honors family legacy with $3.5 million gift<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Thanks to a generous gift made through The Citadel Foundation, the college will soon be improving academic offerings in the School of Engineering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The $3.5 million gift comes from Stephen L. Davis, Class of 1985, and his wife, Lori, through the Davis Family Foundation. The gift honors Davis\u2019 father, Emmett I. Davis Jr., who graduated in 1950 with a degree in civil engineering, and his mother, Mona Ruth Davis, and celebrates the Davis family\u2019s enduring and multigenerational support of The Citadel.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

In appreciation of the Davis family\u2019s contributions, The Citadel has renamed the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. The Dr. Emmett I. Davis, Jr., \u201950, Department of Civil, Environmental and Construction Engineering offers bachelor of science and graduate programs in civil engineering and certificate programs in built environment and public health, geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, and transportation engineering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Citadel is deeply honored and grateful for the Davis family\u2019s generosity and support. This gift will strengthen their family\u2019s legacy on campus and the impact they\u2019re making on our School of Engineering,\u201d said retired U.S. Marine Corps Gen. Glenn Walters, \u201979, president of the college. \u201cTheir contribution will help lay the foundation for a state-of-the-art engineering building as well as strengthen The Citadel\u2019s commitment to excellence in engineering education.\u201d  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
