Leadership, Literacy and Learning in Action<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

From early literacy to leadership at the highest levels, cadets and faculty in the Zucker Family School of Education have been busy this spring with hands-on experiences, expert panels and community outreach. Here are a few highlights from recent events and partnerships that brought real-world learning to life:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Zucker Family School of Education held its annual Leadership Innovation Forum at the Gaillard Center on April 12. Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn delivered the keynote address. A distinguished panel\u2014featuring Coach Maurice Drayton, Coach Roberto Pinilla, Sean Alford, Ph.D., Don Bridenbaugh, and Page Tisdale\u2014discussed how core educational skills are essential to leadership in every field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guy Ilagan, Ph.D., and the ZFSOE partnered with Charleston County School District to host a professional training on suicide prevention and awareness, led by Heather Anderson, CCSD\u2019s coordinator of school counseling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cadets visited E.B. Ellington Elementary School, West Ashley High School and St. Andrews School of Math and Science to observe early literacy instruction in action: English, AP English, English 2, Read to Succeed, and multilingual learner support classrooms. Cadets also learned about community-building strategies, including a Ron Clark Academy-inspired house system that builds community and encourages student connection. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
