Assistant Professor\u00a0James Righter<\/a>, Assistant Professor Gafar Elamin<\/a>,\u00a0and Assistant Professor\u00a0Oguzhan\u00a0Oruc<\/a> presented papers at\u00a0the\u00a0Southeast American Society for Engineering Education conference in Starkville, Mississippi,\u00a0March 9-11. Elamin presented \u201cEngineering Student Preferences on Homework Grading and Exam Preparation.\u201d Oruc, Dean of the School of Engineering Andrew Williams<\/a>, Associate Professor and Department Head of Mechanical Engineering Kevin Skenes<\/a>, and Assistant Professor Eva Singleton<\/a> presented \u201cA Systematic Teaching Method for Modeling, Simulation and Control of Quadrotor Uncrewed Aerial Vehicles,\u201d and the\u00a0development of a new course entitled \u201cControl Design for Autonomous Vehicles Using A Quadcopter As\u00a0The\u00a0Learning Platform.\u201d Righter, alongside Assistant Professor Nathan Washuta<\/a> and former Citadel professor Deirdre Ragan presented \u201cApplication of a House of Quality Intervention in an Engineering Capstone Design Course.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cadet Brian Bradrick presented a poster on manufacturing assembly operations and product complexity at the ASEE Southeastern Section Conference at Mississippi State University. The project is funded by the South Carolina Research Authority through an academic collaboration team grant. Research team members include Cadet Jack Riley, Cadet Victoria Snook and Cadet Saylor Gaines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cadets Sugghikiat Sungkeetanon, Tyler Kelly, Henry Brown, Jerry Johns, Roy Humphreys and Robert Price\u00a0were ranked as accomplished competitors in\u00a0the\u00a02024 University Physics Competition. During\u00a0the\u00a0competition last November,\u00a0these cadets had 48 hours to solve Problem A, which asked\u00a0them to predict how long it would take\u00a0the\u00a0air to escape\u00a0from\u00a0a space station after being punctured by a small meteorite. Associate Professor John Sanders<\/a> and Professor and College Marshall Joel Berlinghieri<\/a> served as\u00a0their faculty sponsors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

More than 830 teams registered for the competition. Of those, only 681 teams actually submitted a paper, so roughly 20% of the competitors either did not know where to start or were not able to finish the problem within the deadline. The fact that the cadets were ranked Accomplished Competitors means they not only met the challenge, but did so under pressure, completing the problem within the 48-hour timeframe.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
