Nursing Clinical Lab Coordinator Andrea Coulter<\/a> led five students on a week-long study abroad trip to La Entrada de Copan, Honduras. Students explored how culture, politics and society impact healthcare delivery and access to healthcare in Honduras. The group returned home with a better understanding of Honduran culture and healthcare practices. Students worked with the surgical brigade team from Vision Health International and the staff at the Manos Amigas Clinic to care for 50 patients who received life-altering eye surgeries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe highlight of the trip was seeing our first patient of the week, a little girl who received strabismus surgery and traveled over 170 miles for a follow up,\u201d said Coulter. \u201cIt was a great experience for the students to see her recovering well. We were also able to visit an elementary school in a nearby village and educate their students on the importance of brushing their teeth and proper techniques.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
