In 2020, he became a&nbsp;Physics Instructor\/First Lieutenant UMSC at The Citadel, and has earned some honors including&nbsp;Certificate and Medal of Appreciation&nbsp;\u2013&nbsp;Citadel NROTC (2012), and&nbsp;Sigma Xi (2007). Some his favorite classes to teach are College Physics I and II and Physics with Calculus because of his math-minded expertise.&nbsp;Further, he has had publications &#8220;Physics Laboratory Manual for Scientists and Engineers&#8221; (2009) and &#8220;High-Temperature Anyon Superconductivity&#8221; (1997).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He enjoys a second employment at&nbsp;Hurka Monument Engraving in Summerville, SC where he also resides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Degrees:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>ABD &#8211; University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>M.S. &#8211; University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>B.S. &#8211; Cornell University, Ithaca, NY<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Research Interests:<br><\/strong>Condensed Matter Physics<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bio: Earning his MS from the&nbsp;University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA, Rene Hurka has been a Physics Lecturer at The Citadel since 2006.
