{"id":24,"date":"2022-11-30T15:34:42","date_gmt":"2022-11-30T15:34:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.citadel.edu\/parents\/?page_id=24"},"modified":"2025-03-25T14:28:26","modified_gmt":"2025-03-25T14:28:26","slug":"prospective-parents-page","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.citadel.edu\/parents\/prospective-parents-page\/","title":{"rendered":"Prospective Parents Page"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-welcome-to-the-citadel-prospective-parent-page\">Welcome to the Citadel Prospective Parent Page!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<p>Let me start by congratulating you on having a child express an interest in attending The Citadel.&nbsp;As you know, this is a place that provides an experience much different than most of what their high school peers will consider.&nbsp;We like to call it \u201cthe road less traveled.\u201d It is a path that is mentally and physically challenging, but also one filled with opportunities that provides the skills they will need to excel in the career field they choose to pursue.&nbsp;The fact that they are considering The Citadel is a reflection of the wonderful job you did raising them, so \u201cWell Done!\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/web.citadel.edu\/root\/images\/Parents\/Prospective\/20210507_CP_LongGrayLine_117.JPG\" alt=\"parents and cadet\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Watching your child figure out where they believe they will flourish in college can be exciting and nerve-racking for parents and families.&nbsp;But once they have made their choice, most will come to you to validate their decision.&nbsp;Our goal is to help you feel comfortable saying \u201cyes\u201d when they come looking for your approval of their decision to attend The Citadel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.citadel.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">website<\/a><\/strong> is a great place to find information on The Citadel.&nbsp;To get the most out of it, we recommend clicking on the \u201cSearch\u201d tool in the upper right-hand corner and typing in a short description of the information you are looking for.&nbsp;A great place to start is the main site for cadet admissions &#8211; <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.citadel.edu\/corps\/\">https:\/\/www.citadel.edu\/corps\/<\/a><\/strong> &#8211; look on the left-hand side of the page for the links to the pages with information that can answer just about every question you may have.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-why-choose-the-citadel\">Why Choose The Citadel?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><em>So why say \u201cyes\u201d to The Citadel?&nbsp;<\/em>Many people will have different reasons, but for parents, we would suggest considering the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Excellent Academic Programs<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>We are organized into the following five schools.&nbsp; Our <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/krausecenter.citadel.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/HonorManual.pdf\">Honor Code<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.citadel.edu\/root\/core-values\">Core Values<\/a><\/strong> of Honor, Duty and Respect are part of our daily lives.&nbsp; The experience is completely different than what their friends will experience at other schools, but the transformation you will see in your child each year will be remarkable.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"3\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong> Commitment to Your Child\u2019s Success<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<p>We care about your child\u2019s success.&nbsp;&nbsp;Within their company,&nbsp;your child will find formal and informal academic support structure.&nbsp; Our teacher to student ratios are low (11:1) which provides an environment for cadets and their professors to develop strong relationships.&nbsp; We have an award winning <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.citadel.edu\/root\/ssc\">Student Success Center<\/a><\/strong> that provides tutoring, paper writing support and life skills coaching.&nbsp; Like you, we want this to be a four-year experience (as opposed to and 5 or 6-year effort) with a job in the field of their choice or selection into a follow-on education program.&nbsp; While here they will have access to one of the finest <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.citadel.edu\/root\/career\">Career Centers<\/a><\/strong> in higher education that supports them each year with resume building, internships and experiential learning opportunities.&nbsp; Additionally, the Center is a great way to tap into the powerful network of Citadel Alumni.&nbsp; If your child will let them know what they want to do for a career, they will help them achieve their dreams!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/web.citadel.edu\/root\/images\/Parents\/Prospective\/Citadel-170043800.jpg\" alt=\"cadet\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"4\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Return on Investment (ROI)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>It costs a great deal to send a child to college, so you want to make sure you are getting a good return on that investment.&nbsp; There are several websites that discuss and try to show ROI for a college degree.&nbsp; I am hesitant to say we have the strongest \u201cfinancial\u201d ROI because a new study may come out tomorrow looking at different set of variables.&nbsp; I will say that our starting salaries are consistently very competitive if not in the highest of those in our category.&nbsp; And finally, don&#8217;t disregard the resilience, confidence and strong network of friends your child will develop at The Citadel.&nbsp; They are truly priceless.
