Bio:
Jody Smith started nursing in a small trauma ICU in rural PA. She obtained diverse nursing skills as a nurse in the Air Force for 4 years. She worked as a float nurse for 5 years in ICUs, medical-surgical units, pediatrics, PACU and performed specialized GI tests. She earned a Master’s in the Family Nurse Practitioner program at Texas A&M Corpus Christi with a minor in Nursing Education. For 15 years she has maintained expertise as a Family Nurse Practitioner and in Nursing Education. In practice, she has worked in Deployment Health, Primary Care, and clinics for uninsured patients. She has provided care in patients’ homes, worked with Veterans and provided care in long-term care facilities. In education, she has taught beginner nursing to Master’s level courses. She enjoys meeting each patient or student where they are and helping them achieve their goals. Committed to student success, her research interests are best practices in nursing education and resilience.
