The event celebrates the generosity of those\ndonors whose lifelong support allows the college to pursue its vision of\nachieving excellence in the education of principled leaders.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Members of the college\u2019s lifetime, legacy and loyalty\ngiving societies gather on campus to be honored in front of their peers. Due to\nthe pandemic, the ceremony went virtual last year, but The Citadel Foundation is\npleased to host the event in person this October to induct the new 2021 Leaders\nin Philanthropy, listed here. The 2020 inductees, who were recognized in these\npages last year, are also invited back to campus to be celebrated publicly at\nthe induction ceremony and participate in the associated festivities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Citadel\u2019s lifetime giving societies honor those\nindividuals who have expressed their profound commitment to the college through\ntheir leadership gifts totaling $100,000 or more by the close of the preceding\ncalendar year. Donors who have included The Citadel in their estate plans\nbecome members of The Citadel Legacy Society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through the Order of the Tartan, we acknowledge those\nloyal donors who have given consecutively at any level for 25 years or more.\nBeginning at the five-year mark, donors are recognized for their consecutive\ngiving with a tartan-patterned lapel pin, with additional recognition offered\nat 10, 15, and 20 years. Upon reaching the 25th year, these loyal donors\nreceive their tartan sash and are officially inducted into the Order of the\nTartan at the annual ceremony.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Citadel Foundation proudly welcomes the new Leaders\nin Philanthropy listed here who have joined their peers in this annual\ntradition celebrating charity and service as virtues of the principled leader. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On behalf of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets and the\nentire campus community, we salute these individuals for their extraordinary\ngenerosity, vision and lifelong loyalty to The Citadel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-founders-society\">Founders\u2019 Society<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>$5,000,000 and greater<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just as the founders of The Citadel\nconceived of an institution that would \u201cawaken greater ardor in the people, and\na warmer interest in our rulers, to advance the cause of education,\u201d members of\nthe Founders\u2019 Society demonstrate the vision and commitment that will ensure\nthe long-term vitality of the college. Mark W. Clark (1896-1984) became\npresident of The Citadel after a career seldom equaled in the United States\nArmy. During his tenure (1954-1965), The Citadel achieved international\nrecognition, and the Corps of Cadets increased to the maximum capacity of the\nbarracks.
