Bio
Dr. Emily Sherwood earned her Master’s in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages at Carson-Newman University and spent close to a decade teaching English Language Learners of various grade and language levels, cultural, and language backgrounds in rural Tennessee schools. In 2019, she earned a doctorate in Teacher Education with a specialty in Literacy from the University of Tennessee. Most recently, Dr. Sherwood worked as a Reading Specialist at a secondary English-Immersion school in Guangzhou, China.
Dr. Sherwood’s passion is promoting the field of English literacy among multilingual students. She has conducted extensive research about family literacy in Spanish-speaking families and reading professional development among culturally diverse staff. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, writing, and traveling.
