Should I bring a computer?<\/summary>
\n

The Citadel requires students to have personal laptops. The campus has first-rate computing resources-including computer labs , multimedia presentation classrooms, a multimedia support center, and a fully automated library. Other than the technology fee you pay each semester, there is no charge for using the computer labs, printers, campus network, or Internet access. However, our students are required to bring a laptop as it is needed for many in-class assignments and virtual classroom work embedded in the curriculum.\u00a0 In addition, students who are taking online or hybrid courses will need a computer to complete their coursework.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n\n\n

What brand of computer should I buy or bring? Why?<\/summary>
\n

The Citadel IT Department strongly recommends Dell computers for students due to our long-standing relationship with Dell\u2019s warranty support team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why shouldn’t I purchase an HP or Apple or bring a computer that is not a brand the Citadel services?<\/summary>
\n

Computer technicians at the Citadel are knowledgeable in the process of repairing Dell computers and there is no charge for our technicians to work on the computer as long as the accidental coverage warranty is current and the student is enrolled and living in the barracks. If you bring another brand of computer and it breaks, you must arrange service with the vendor directly to repair it and pay for all associated costs.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Why do I need that much warranty?<\/summary>
\n

The Citadel can provide free technical service and repairs to the Dell brand PCs with an accidental coverage warranty. If not under warranty additional charges for parts apply.  Many people shopping for a new computer love the peace of mind they get with the four year warranty and accidental coverage through Dell. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Which of the recommended models should I purchase? <\/summary>
\n

Most students can get the standard PC model for classes. Some majors such as Engineering may need the additional speed and graphics capability of the more powerful configurations. Check http:\/\/www.dell.com\/citadel<\/a> for different recommended models. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Do I need a personal printer?<\/summary>
\n

Most students will not need a personal printer. Printers are available in the Library and various computer labs across campus, and are free to use as part of your technology fee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you choose to bring a personal printer, it must support USB printing and include a USB printer cable. Due to the current network configuration, wireless printing is not supported in the Barracks.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Do I need Microsoft Office? <\/summary>
\n

Yes, all students will need Microsoft Office to complete their course work at The Citadel. All students have access to Microsoft Office 365<\/a>.  Please keep in mind that you must have your citadel email address in order to get this offer; we recommend that you wait until after you arrive and get your email address before attempting to download\/install the software.  A technician can assist you with the installation if necessary.  If you rather have it pre-installed on the system, Dell will sell you the software at full price when you configure your PC for purchase. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n\n\n

What happens if my computer breaks? <\/summary>
\n

Our technical support team can fix your PC (within our guidelines) if it happens to break.  You can stop by the ITS Help Center in Bond Hall 253 or call us at (843) 953-HELP. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n\n\n

What else will I need? <\/summary>
\n
