Maj. John Herms graduated with The Citadel class of 1973 with a BA History. He served for ten years as an Army aviator and as a Special Forces detachment commander. Upon departure from active duty he was assigned to a classified Army Reserve unit as a special operations officer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He joined the Central Intelligence Agency for 30 years as an undercover paramilitary\/foreign intelligence officer responsible for planning and leading worldwide ground and aviation covert action operations. During his career he commanded all CIA covert aviation assets and personnel and was responsible for the development and early deployment of the Predator Drone. As an intelligence officer he commanded overseas CIA bases, recruited foreign assets and authored intelligence reports. He served on the United Nations inspection team in Iraq searching for weapons of mass destruction prior to the US invasion. As a CIA pilot he acquired over 200 hours of combat flight time in Russian helicopters. During his career he served in 11 wars\/conflicts and was awarded the CIA\u2019s Intelligence Star for Valor for classified ground combat\/intelligence operations in support of the US military.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Maj. Herms conducts classes on covert action and intelligence operations involving paramilitary, propaganda and political action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
