Welcome to MUSC Health at The Citadel, Counseling Services<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As a student, you will encounter many new situations that will challenge your personal strengths and require new problem solving skills. These situations and your response to them may result in experiencing personal or academic difficulties making you feel stressed or overwhelmed. The MUSC Health at The Citadel, Counseling staff seeks to facilitate your growth and development by helping you to enhance your personal assets, develop more effective coping strategies, and understand yourself better. We are prepared to help you gain the most that you can from your experience at The Citadel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eligibility and Referral for Services<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Eligibility for Counseling and Psychiatry Services<\/strong>: Currently enrolled Citadel undergraduate and graduate students are eligible for in-person services through MUSC Health at The Citadel. We do not provide video counseling or telehealth counseling.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Telehealth and Off-Campus Counseling with the My Group Student Assistance Program (SAP)<\/strong>: Current Citadel students can access My Group telehealth video counseling, off-campus in-person counseling, and 24\/7 telephone assistance.\u00a0Students can call 800-633-3353 to access My Group services or go to\u00a0www.mygroup.com\/portal\/student<\/a> and click \u201cRequest a SAP\u201d to schedule an appointment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Referral Service: <\/strong>If a student\u2019s needs extend beyond the expertise of the provider, the student will be referred to off-campus counseling resources.  Expenses incurred off campus are the student\u2019s responsibility. Citadel employees are not eligible for counseling services at the clinic.  Employees are encouraged to contact Human Resources or the Employee Assistance Program (800-633-3353). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Appointments<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Citadel students can book appointments with a licensed mental health provider by calling 843-953-4827<\/a> or visiting the clinic at 9 Hammond Ave (Mary Bennett Murray Infirmary). Subsequent appointments may be scheduled at the conclusion of each appointment, by calling, or by visiting the clinic.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Individual counseling sessions are 50 minutes in length. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fees<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

For currently enrolled Citadel students, please see the Health Insurance tab and the Billing and Medical Records tab for questions about fees.  Expenses incurred off campus are the student\u2019s responsibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emergency Services<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In the event of an emergency, during office hours, students should clearly communicate their needs to the medical office assistant or nurse to request immediate access to a mental health provider. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After hours, students can still request assistance at the clinic; a nurse will contact a counselor as needed. Alternatively, call 988 or 911, go to a hospital emergency room, or call Citadel Public Safety at 843-953-5114<\/a>. Expenses incurred off-campus for treatment are the student\u2019s responsibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Confidentiality<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Staff maintain confidentiality in compliance with state laws and national ethical standards for licensed mental health providers.  All communications between client and a provider will not be revealed to anyone outside MUSC unless the client provides written authorization to release information. The legal and ethical exceptions to confidentiality which require that the provider take responsible action include: <\/p>\n\n\n\n
