{"id":123,"date":"2022-06-21T07:55:53","date_gmt":"2022-06-21T11:55:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.citadel.edu\/history\/?page_id=123"},"modified":"2024-02-26T13:36:13","modified_gmt":"2024-02-26T18:36:13","slug":"chinese-studies","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.citadel.edu\/history\/cadet-programs\/chinese-studies\/","title":{"rendered":"Minor in Chinese Studies"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Statement of Purpose<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The minor in Chinese Studies is an interdisciplinary concentration of courses and academic experiences focused on China that prepares students to understand and appreciate the history, culture, politics, and business practices of the world&#8217;s soon-to-be greatest economic power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-curriculum\">Curriculum<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To earn the minor in Chinese Studies, students must complete 15 hours of course work which is 5 classes. One course has to be either a Chinese language course (at any level), or Chinese 450 (Undergraduate Seminar: Studies in Special Topics, which will be taught in English). The remaining 4 courses must be selected from the options listed below: &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Business:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>BADM 330 &#8220;The Chinese Economy&#8221; (a future Special Topics course on the Chinese economy)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>History<\/strong>:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>HIST 357 \u201cHistory of Premodern China\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>HIST 358 \u201cHistory of Modern China\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>HIST 365 \u201cSpecial Topics in Non-Western History\u201d (When course is about China)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>HIST 371 \u201cEast Asian Historical Concepts of Leadership\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Modern Languages:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CHIN 101-102 \u201cBeginning Chinese\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CHIN 201-202 \u201cIntermediate Chinese\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CHIN 301-302 \u201cAdvanced Speaking, Reading, and Writing\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CHIN 303 \u201cChinese Civilization\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CHIN 307 \u201cBusiness Chinese\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CHIN 450 \u201cUndergraduate Seminar\u201d (Chinese Culture)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Political Science<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PSCI 232 \u201cComparative Politics\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PSCI 337 \u201cEast Asian Affairs\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Declaration of Minor<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Students who wish to earn the minor in Chinese Studies must file a&nbsp;declaration of intent with the Director of the program by the beginning of their junior year.
