\nAny Citadel student, graduate or undergraduate, may be published in the journal. The journal<\/em> was named in honor of the actual Gold Stars that cadets earn. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/details><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
\n\n\n\nWork Value<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
\nWhat if I don’t think my work is good enough for publication?<\/strong><\/summary>
\nMany students think this. However, every year at least one of these students are pleasantly surprised to be published in the journal<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
You are your own worst critic and have nothing to loose, but everything to gain. Try looking at this as an opportunity that could give you a line item for your professional resume. You might also win a monitory prize. The monetary prizes range from $400 – $800. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/details><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

\nWhat are the personal benefits of submitting to The GSJ<\/em>?<\/strong><\/summary>
\nStudents are given the opportunity to improve academic writing proficiency, to strengthen critical thinking skills, to elevate creativity capabilities, to enhance public speaking abilities at the GSJAC, and to increase time management. This experience will give you something to add to your professional resume along with applications to graduate and\/or other professional schools. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n\n\n
Are there prizes for publication?<\/strong><\/summary>
\nFor an accepted Nonfiction paper, students are eligible to win the following awards:<\/strong> The Boyd Family Distinction Award (Best Overall Paper is chosen), The Best Undergraduate Paper Award, The Best Graduate Paper Award, and\/or The Citadel Legacy Award (Winner gains a life time membership to The Citadel’s Alumni Association.).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For an accepted photograph or artwork, students are eligible to win the following awards: <\/strong>The Best Photograph Award, GSJ Distinction Award, and\/or Fine Arts Faculty Award (The winner is chosen by the Fine Arts faculty.). <\/p>\n<\/div><\/details><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

\nPhoto stories depict experiences mostly through photographs and minimal prose. The first photo story<\/a><\/strong> appeared in the 2019 edition. William Rasberry wrote this story about his trip to Costa Rica and his introduction to photography.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n\n\n
