{"id":51,"date":"2022-09-01T15:16:06","date_gmt":"2022-09-01T19:16:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.citadel.edu\/finearts\/?post_type=person&#038;p=51"},"modified":"2026-03-04T12:51:45","modified_gmt":"2026-03-04T17:51:45","slug":"tiffany-silverman","status":"publish","type":"person","link":"https:\/\/www.citadel.edu\/finearts\/faculty-staff\/tiffany-silverman\/","title":{"rendered":"Tiffany Reed Silverman"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Citadel\u2019s first full-time academic faculty member in the Fine Arts, Tiffany Reed Silverman first came to campus in 2008 to teach an Art Appreciation course. Since then, she has taught this course every semester and has developed new courses such as Photography and Visual Perception that led to the creation of the Fine Arts minor in 2014, now the largest minor in the school. She led the Citadel in DC Summer program for three terms and the Summer STEAM Camp for middle school students in partnership with The Citadel\u2019s STEM Center of Excellence. Silverman also connects Fine Arts cadets to the Charleston community with internships both in the arts and in corporations that appreciate their visually oriented skill sets. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the Director of Fine Arts, Silverman facilitates transformative experiences at the intersection of the arts, the military, and the community. She curated &#8220;Behind the Lines: Combat Artists and The Citadel Experience,&#8221; the first exhibition in the Winfred B. Moore, Jr. Art Gallery in Capers Hall, which has engaged over 4,000 visitors and has an accompanying publication and is now on view at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pritzkermilitary.org\/behind-lines-combat-artists-and-citadel-experience\" id=\"https:\/\/www.pritzkermilitary.org\/behind-lines-combat-artists-and-citadel-experience\">Pritzker Military Museum<\/a>. Other events include a lecture by <em>Monuments Men<\/em>\u00a0author Robert Edsel with actor Bill Murray that had 1,500 attendees, a site-specific installation of artist Mary Edna Fraser\u2019s campus-inspired batiks as The Citadel\u2019s first entry into Piccolo Spoleto, the launch of watercolor artist Mary Whyte\u2019s book of portraits of veterans called\u00a0<em>We the People<\/em>,\u00a0and the <em>Charleston Strong<\/em> mural that stretches a city block to engage the community in a public memorial for the Emanuel 9. Silverman speaks about The Citadel\u2019s Fine Arts programs at local events such as Pecha Kucha, the Roper St. Francis Leadership Lecture Series, and The Citadel Alumni Club Breakfast.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Silverman is the 2026 Individual recipient of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.southcarolinaarts.com\/direct-programs\/sc-arts-awards\/governors-awards\/\" id=\"https:\/\/www.southcarolinaarts.com\/direct-programs\/sc-arts-awards\/governors-awards\/\">South Carolina Governor&#8217;s Awards in the Arts<\/a>, the state&#8217;s highest honor for art to recognize outstanding achievement and contributions to the arts in South Carolina. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A board member of the Charleston Museum and the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, Silverman also serves on the Coastal Carolina Scouting USA board, the City of Charleston\u2019s Commission on the Arts, and the advisory board of the Patriot Art Foundation. She has been honored with\u00a0The Citadel\u2019s first Excellence in Teaching Award given to a non-tenure track faculty member, as well as\u00a0the Campus Compact of South Carolina Faculty Award for Service Learning, the Krause Center Service Learning Fellowship, and the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award.
