{"id":39,"date":"2023-02-06T13:52:28","date_gmt":"2023-02-06T13:52:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.citadel.edu\/counseling-center\/?page_id=39"},"modified":"2023-12-06T21:44:11","modified_gmt":"2023-12-06T21:44:11","slug":"student-assistance-program","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.citadel.edu\/counseling-center\/student-assistance-program\/","title":{"rendered":"Student Assistance Program"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.citadel.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/Today-Graphic-Mental-Health-v2.jpg\" alt=\"SAP\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Mental health is an integral element of fitness, which is a core component \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/today.citadel.edu\/every-cadet-twice-a-year-every-year-the-citadel-physical-fitness-test\/\">one of the four pillars<\/a> \u2014 of a Citadel education.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To address mental health concerns, <strong>The Citadel has implemented a Student Assistance Program<\/strong> (SAP) for all currently enrolled cadets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This program provides&nbsp;free,&nbsp;confidential&nbsp;mental health and wellness support, including: &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A 24\/7 telephone hotline that cadets can call to discuss any personal difficulties or concerns, or to schedule a tele-health counseling appointment with an off-campus therapist.&nbsp;<strong>Cadets can call 800-633-3353 at any time for assistance.<\/strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A link to schedule an online tele-health counseling appointment with an off-campus therapist. <strong>Visit&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mygroup.com\/portal\/student\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">www.mygroup.com\/portal\/student<\/a>&nbsp;and click \u201cRequest a SAP\u201d to schedule an appointment.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In an email to the Corps of Cadets announcing the SAP, The Citadel Commandant of Cadets Col. Thomas Gordon, USMC (Ret.), said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>My goal is to reduce stigma around mental health and to encourage cadets to seek professional help and guidance when they are struggling. This is how we become better, resilient, principled leaders.
