Wood is an Associate Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at The Citadel. He acquired a Bachelor&#8217;s in Engineering Physics Summa Cum Laude with Honors followed by Civil Engineering Master&#8217;s and Doctoral degrees from Texas Tech University. His technical research focuses on structural evaluation of buried bridges and culverts. He encourages students through an infectious enthusiasm for engineering mechanics and self-directed, lifelong learning. He aims to recover the benefits of the classical model for civil engineering education through an emphasis on reading and other autodidactic practices.<br>Dr. Wood joined The Citadel, School of Engineering, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in Fall of 2016 after more than a decade of transportation-related geotechnical research at the Center for Multidisciplinary Research in Transportation at Texas Tech University. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His real professional passion is for teaching engineering mechanics courses. When not teaching, he, his wife and three kids are hanging out with folks from&nbsp;Holy City Church&nbsp;on James Island, homeschooling with Classical Conversations, or supporting musicals at&nbsp;HOUSE Theater. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He enjoys eclectic hobbies like fountain pens, electric guitar,&nbsp;disc golf, and reading theology and fantasy. He is passionate about civil engineering because it is a great way to obey the creation mandate to fill the earth and subdue it, supporting the needs of a growing and mobile humanity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-degrees\">Degrees<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ph.D. Civil Engineering, Texas Tech University, 2015<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>M.S.
