The Civil War was a crossroads between the &#8220;Old Navy&#8221; of &#8220;iron men and wooden sailing ships&#8221; and the &#8220;New Navy&#8221; of ironclads and steamships. During the Civil War, the mission of the Corps\u2014mobile, agile and lethal power projection from the sea\u2014was refined.
