Col. Charles Courtney Tew<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Col. Charles Courtney Tew<\/strong>\u00a0was Superintendent of The Arsenal 1856-1858. Tew was The Citadel’s 1st Honor Graduate in its 1st graduating class of 1846. The Arsenal was The Citadel’s “sister academy”, located in Columbia. It enrolled all 4th class cadets and then they entered The Citadel for their remaining 3 years. Tew founded Hillsboro Military Academy in North Carolina, fought for the Confederacy as a Colonel and was KIA at the Battle of Sharpsburg, Md. 14 Sept 1861 on the eve of his promotion to Brigadier General.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
