Summer in Estonia (PSCI\/INTL)<\/summary>

Undergraduate Courses:<\/strong> PSCI 433 or INTL 465 Intro to Cybersecurity in the Baltics and PSCI 433 or INTL 465 Estonian and Baltic Foreign Policy. Graduate Courses<\/strong>: PSCI 510 or INTL 585 Intro to Cybersecurity in the Baltics and PSCI 510 or INTL 585 Estonian and Baltic Foreign Policy<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You\u2019ll complete 2 courses (6 total hours) of undergraduate credit (or graduate level for MA students) that can be prefixed as PSCI and\/or INTL depending on your academic major and transcript needs. The program is hosted at Tallinn Technical University and includes tuition, housing, meals, in-country transportation, insurance, and excursions including a visit to the Russian border, a briefing at the NATO Center for Excellence in Cybersecurity, a rifle range to test fire WWII Soviet and modern Russian weapons, and a tour of a former KGB listening and intelligence gathering post (airfare is not included).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Health Care Study Abroad Program to Kenya <\/summary>
\n

Designed primarily for Pre-Health students, although open to all, this service-based program involves being a part of The Citadel Medical Camp, the largest free general medicine provider in Kenya. As part of The Citadel Medical Camp, students will spend 3 weeks in Nairobi (the capital of Kenya), serving impoverished populations in the major slum areas. Students will work alongside Kenyan and American clinicians in partnership with the non-profit organization United Cultural Empowerment and Social Community Organization (UCESCO).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students will acquire over 150 clinical service hours through various medical rotations and 6 credit hours (EXSC 406, EXSC 421, HLED 411) depending on your transcript needs. The program includes tuition, housing, meals, insurance, and excursions including a trip to Mombasa and a safari to Masai Mara (airfare not included).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students follow a balanced weekly routine featuring intensive Spanish language instruction every morning, followed by afternoon field lectures and site visits across Barcelona\u2014such as the Gothic Quarter, Sagrada Fam\u00edlia, and local museums. Evenings are reserved for independent study and cultural practice, while weekends include faculty-led day trips to regional historical sites like Roman Tarragona, medieval Girona, and Montserrat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n

In alignment with The Citadel\u2019s 2027 strategic emphasis on Artificial Intelligence, students will evaluate the “Future of Service” through first-hand analysis of Robotics, AI, and Automation within the Japanese economy\u2014the global gold standard for high-tech, high-touch hospitality. By navigating Japan\u2019s sophisticated logistics infrastructure and visiting Hiroshima to study industrial resilience and post-war economic reconstruction, students will gain critical insights into supply chain excellence and the “Business of Resilience.” Furthermore, the curriculum utilizes the Japanese concept of Omotenashi to teach Transformative Service Research (TSR), challenging students from all disciplines\u2014including business, engineering, and the humanities\u2014to analyze how technological innovation can be leveraged to enhance human well-being, operational efficiency, and global market competitiveness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Korea University International Summer Campus in Seoul is an academic program specially designed for international students who wish to explore their summer through both academic and cultural learning. Various cultural activities are also available, including a tour of the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) and various museums, as well as visits to broadcasting stations and shows, and sports events. *The DMZ tour is mandatory for students from The Citadel.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Studying Complex Environmental Issues in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem <\/summary>
\n

This immersive field course takes you to the heart of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, exploring environmental conflicts across West Yellowstone, ID; Gardiner, MT; Bozeman, MT; and Cody, WY. Students will spend time inside Yellowstone National Park with expert wildlife guides and meet with scientists, land managers, ranchers, conservation groups, and community leaders to examine issues such as wolf management, brucellosis transmission between bison and cattle, invasive species, and the effects of a changing climate. Participants will then apply lessons learned in the field to a South Carolina environmental conflict, connecting national and local perspectives on science, policy, and sustainability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Depending on your strand, this course could address EART 201 Introduction to Earth Science (4 credits) and\/or EDUC 409 Special Topics (3 credits) for Education majors. The program includes tuition, housing, some meals, activities fees, and insurance (airfare is not included).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While at the Cockscomb Basin and Wildlife Sanctuary and South Water Caye Marine Reserve, cadets will snorkel, kayak, and paddleboard in addition to participating in bird walks, forest hikes, river tubing, reef walks, and mangrove walks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Costa Rica Study Abroad (Spanish)<\/summary>
\n

Immerse yourself in the legendary friendliness of Costa Ricans and their “pura vida” spirit. Students will have 20 contact hours of Spanish language immersion in class per week (5 weeks) taught through Intercultural Costa Rica. While living with a local Costa Rican family, students will participate in weekly cultural activities that may include: an interactive visit to a sloth sanctuary, a hike to a volcano \/ waterfalls in Volcano Po\u00e1s National Park (this may include zip-lining, if the students so decide), a weekend-long beach trip to a West-coast beach, a tour of a coffee plantation, a white-water rafting excursion, a city bus tour of the capital San Jos\u00e9, and a visit to Tortuga Island (West Coast). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rouen, Normandy, WW2, Medieval France, Amazing French Cuisine!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rouen is one of France\u2019s most historic and vibrant cities<\/strong>, known for its breathtaking Gothic cathedral, medieval half-timbered houses, and rich artistic and historical heritage. As the historic capital of Normandy, Rouen is closely associated with Joan of Arc – where she was burnt at the stake. It also famously inspired Claude Monet\u2019s cathedral series. Located just 1.5 hours from Paris<\/strong>, Rouen offers the perfect balance between regional immersion and easy access to the French capital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This program is your opportunity to develop and strengthen oral and written French skills through full cultural immersion. This program is tailored for students seeking immersive experiences in Chinese language and cultural studies. Over one month, participants have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a Chinese-speaking environment, engaging in activities that improve communication skills and foster a deeper understanding of the Chinese language and Asian culture. The students will skillfully use the Pinyin system with correct pronunciation and writing. The students will recognize and write Chinese characters and learn computer typing in Chinese. Moreover, students can engage in enterprise visits and cultural field trips through the term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students will engage with Korean students, faculty, military personnel, and sport professionals while learning about Korean history, traditions, and contemporary society. Cadets will be introduced to South Korean military institutions and training facilities to foster comparative understanding and global military awareness as well as gain firsthand exposure to South Korea’s approaches to physical fitness, tactical readiness, sport science, athlete development, and military performance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

HLED 411: ST (name TBD) is a 3 credit course that provides students with firsthand experience of the sports industry in South Korea, including professional leagues, management practices, and cultural influences on sports. Cadets will study and visit key sites of the 1916 Easter Rising, the War of Independence and the Civil War, the “Troubles” of 1968-1998, and the efforts to create peace after the 1998 Good Friday Agreement. \u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nature and Nurture in Psychology in Rome, Italy (Psychology)<\/summary>
\n

Students will spend part of each day engaged in classroom-based lectures, activities, and projects. Service learning activities and site visits will focus on topics and populations representing many of the topics covered in class. Site visits and experiential activities will help students explore how topics explored in class are relevant in Roman\/Italian culture. For example, students may visit Montessori schools to learn about child development, learn more about poverty by helping to prepare and distribute food to homeless populations in Rome, and visit local parks to learn about environmental toxins\/teratogens that influence brain development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
