LockDown Browser prevents students from opening other websites, applications, or AI tools during an exam. Respondus Monitor adds automated webcam proctoring. Both are available in every Citadel Canvas course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-get-started\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Get Started<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"h-set-up-an-exam-with-lockdown-browser\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Set Up an Exam with LockDown Browser<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Make sure the exam has been created in your Canvas course.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select <strong>LockDown Browser<\/strong> from the course navigation menu.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The LockDown Browser Dashboard displays the available exams. Exams marked <strong>Enabled<\/strong> require LockDown Browser; exams marked <strong>Not Enabled<\/strong> do not.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Open the menu next to the exam and select <strong>Settings<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select <strong>Require Respondus LockDown Browser for this test<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you\u2019d like, enter a password that students must use to begin the exam.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Save the exam settings.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"h-prepare-your-students\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Prepare Your Students<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Tell students early.<\/strong> Let students know which exams require LockDown Browser or Monitor, so they can install it and check their device before exam day.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Point them to the install directions.<\/strong> Every course\u2019s Start Here module includes an Installing LockDown Browser page.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Give a practice quiz.<\/strong> A short, ungraded practice quiz with the same settings lets students test their setup and solve problems before an exam counts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-using-respondus-monitor\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Using Respondus Monitor<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Respondus Monitor works with LockDown Browser to provide automated proctoring for online exams. Students use a webcam to record themselves during the exam, and you may also choose to record the student\u2019s computer screen. Suspicious testing behavior is flagged for your review.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"h-view-monitor-results\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">View Monitor Results<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After students complete an exam, open <strong>LockDown Browser<\/strong> from the course navigation menu and review the results for that exam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Flagged events and review priority results do not mean a student cheated or broke an exam rule.<\/strong> They help you find recorded moments that may be worth a closer look. Review the recording before you draw any conclusions, and follow The Citadel\u2019s academic integrity process if you have concerns. See <a href=\"https:\/\/web.respondus.com\/monitor-review\/\">Respondus Monitor: Understanding Proctoring Results<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"h-turn-on-monitor-after-copying-a-course\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Turn On Monitor After Copying a Course<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open the copied Canvas course.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select <strong>LockDown Browser<\/strong> from the course navigation menu.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Open the LockDown Browser Dashboard. Opening the dashboard activates Respondus Monitor for the copied course.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Confirm that the correct LockDown Browser and Monitor settings are turned on for the copied exams.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-choosing-the-right-approach\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Choosing the Right Approach<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Match the level of security to the purpose of the assessment.
