Which of these strategies are you willing to try?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Pre-Plan.<\/strong>&nbsp;Decide in advance how much you will drink and stick to that amount.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Keep track.<\/strong>&nbsp;Keep track of the number, frequency, and amount of drinks you consume.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Know your standard drinks.<\/strong>&nbsp;Measure all drinks according to \u201cstandard drinks.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Pace drinks.<\/strong>&nbsp;Pace how much you will drink. For example, limit yourself to one drink every hour or so. Be realistic with your pacing goal.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Space drinks.<\/strong>&nbsp;Alternate your alcoholic beverages with non-alcoholic beverages such as water, tea or soda.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Avoid binge drinking.<\/strong>&nbsp;Avoid consuming a large amount of alcohol over a short period of time. This means skipping most drinking games such as \u201cbeer pong,\u201d \u201cquarters\u201d and \u201cflip cup.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Eat food.<\/strong>&nbsp;Avoid consuming alcohol on an empty stomach; eat food when you are drinking.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Three max.<\/strong>&nbsp;Try to stick to no more than three alcoholic drinks per drinking occasion.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Abstain.<\/strong>&nbsp;Abstain from alcohol on occasion.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Designated driver.<\/strong>&nbsp;Be the designated driver on occasion.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>PLEASE NOTE:<\/strong>\u00a0A designated drive IS NOT the least intoxicated person in a group; a designated driver is a person who does not drink alcohol, in any amount, while responsible for the transportation (e.g., cars and boats!) of others!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>0-0-1-3.<\/strong>&nbsp;Follow the 0-0-1-3 rule; Learn about 0-0-1-3.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Be assertive.<\/strong>&nbsp;Encourage your friends to slow down or stop if you notice they are drinking too much or too quickly.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Safe travel one.<\/strong>&nbsp;Find an alternative means of travel (i.e., taxi, sober friend) if you have been drinking.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Safe travel two.<\/strong>&nbsp;Never travel as a passenger in a vehicle with a driver you know has been drinking.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The guidelines above on low-risk drinking do not apply if you:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Have health problems such as liver disease or mental illness.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are taking medications such as sedatives, painkillers, sleeping pills, cough and cold medicines or medications for mental illness.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have a personal or family history of drinking problems.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have a family history of cancer or other risk factors for cancer.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are pregnant, trying to get pregnant or are breastfeeding.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Will be operating a vehicle such as cars, trucks, motorcycles, boats, snowmobiles or bicycles.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Will be doing activities where you are responsible for the safety of others.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Will be doing activities involving guns or other weapons (e.g., hunting).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Will be doing activities around water such as swimming or scuba diving.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are told not to drink for legal, medical or other reasons.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pick AT LEAST 5 of theses\u00a0LOW-RISK DRINKING TIPS Small changes can make a big difference in reducing your chances of having alcohol related problems.
