While the Tommy & Victoria Baker School of Business Administration has the reputation of a long-established program at The Citadel, in an ever-changing business market, the BSB strives to keep all available resources current to maintain a superior quality learning experience for all of our students. While standard classroom teaching is very important, placing state-of-the-art business tools in the hands of our students, as well as recognizing those alum and business partners who have succeeded above and beyond the expected norm professionally, are vital to keeping a thriving business program. The Rick and Mary Lee Bastin Lab was founded in 2010 when an energized student presented a vision for future growth and development in the area of financial services at The Citadel. The development of the lab includes the use of the best financial trading software and equipment in order to establish and grow the financial leaders of tomorrow. BSB advisory board member Rick Bastin, ’65 and his wife Mary Lee, responded by funding a state of the art facility. The Bastin Lab is a tangible asset that supports the mission of the Tommy & Victoria Baker School of Business and represents a major step towards creating an atmosphere of excellence, where students reach their highest potential as premier business leaders in the classroom and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Kerr Reading Room was created to provide students with a quiet study space, a place to meet classmates to work on group projects and a place to relax and read a book. The Kerr Room is open every school day for all business students to use for study purposes. Unlike a library, the Kerr Reading Room includes three private study rooms equipped with large screen monitors for individual or group project work. The main area boasts a projection screen linked to a workstation and a large conference table to accommodate meetings. The Kerr Reading Room was made possible through the support of James J. Kerr, Sr., ’65.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Patricia P. McArver Public Speaking Lab (PSL) was established through a gift from Henry Dale Smith, ’47 and his wife Betty of Springfield, Illinois to help cadets and graduate students learn to communicate more effectively. Mr. Smith also wanted the faculty to have a resource to use in developing presentations. Smith decided to give back to his alma mater by establishing a service that could help all cadets, CGC students, faculty and staff. The lab uses Mediasite by Sonic Foundry to polish faculty presentations and to provide visual feedback for students to allow them to grow as effective speakers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
What are the next greatest opportunities to contribute? A few of the possibilities lie within the growth areas shown below for the Tommy & Victoria Baker School of Business. However, the BSB welcomes new and innovative ideas from their alumni that will not only facilitate growth but maintain the superior quality education for which the university is revered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There are several types of philanthropy available for contributors. The Citadel Foundation has coordinated a variety of options to contribute to the BSB’s expansion based on a donor’s individual priorities.
