The Moody Professional Development Grant is part of the Tommy and Victoria Baker School of Business (BSB) academic and experiential program. This program aims to identify high-potential students and support their engagement in professional development within the context of the school\u2019s discipline-specific majors. The program was funded by a $1,000,000 endowment granted to the Citadel Foundation by the late O.L. Moody in 2012. The first Moody scholarships were awarded in 2015.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scholarship Funding<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Moody Professional Development Grant is intended to incentivize high-potential students to engage in professional development activities by providing financial support for such activities. Recipients will have access to $1,000 per academic year to use for professional development activities (money cannot be used for tuition or textbooks). There are multiple awards available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Student Activities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Generally, the expectation is that the funds will be used for professional development purposes. Some examples include: (note the list below is neither exclusive nor exhaustive)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  1. Student attendance at professional conferences<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Support of internship opportunities in a high-cost area (e.g., New York City)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Professional organization memberships<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Professional certification materials, exams, and training workshops<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Study abroad expenses<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    All expenditures must be approved by the student\u2019s department head and the Dean\u2019s office before<\/u> being committed and\/or expended.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Eligibility Requirements<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Students will be selected as recipients based on a combination of their cumulative GPA, participation and leadership in professional student organizations, professional service activities, and their submitted essays describing their plans for professional development. Only students with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher will be eligible to apply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    To apply, students must:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \n
    1. Be actively enrolled in the Day Program (SCCC, Active Duty, and Veteran students)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    2. Hold a Sophomore, Junior, or Senior academic classification (3A or above)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    3. Be pursuing a discipline-specific business major (Accounting, Finance, Management, Marketing & Business Development, or Supply Chain Management)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    4. Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.000 or higher<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      Applications Now Open for Fall 2025<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      To apply, please complete the online application by Wednesday, October 15, 2025. The list of documents required and the submission information are located on the form. Selected recipients’ names will be announced by Friday, October 31, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Students will submit their resume and this application form<\/a>. In addition to student identification information, the application will include a brief essay (approximately 1,000 words or less) explaining why the student should be awarded the support and for what they intend to use the funds. All student essays will be blind reviewed by the Student Affairs Committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      If you have already been awarded the scholarship, you need to follow the steps below each time you need to spend your awarded funds:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      1. Decide on a professional development activity\/expense,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      2. Discuss it with your major department head to determine if this is an approved expense<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      3. Submit the required form<\/a> for approval.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
