Students will choose a 6-credit hour pair of Freshman Seminars and take freshman lab science and freshman math courses determined by their major. All students will then take courses in Physical Fitness, Resiliency and Wellness, Professional Communication and American Government. During sophomore through senior years, classes in English, History, Natural Science and Social Science will be determined by a student\u2019s declared strand. Finally juniors will take Leadership in Organizations and seniors will take a Capstone course embedded in their major.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-general-education-outcomes\">General Education Outcomes<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the four-year core curriculum, students will develop skills in Critical Thinking, Ethical Reasoning, Intercultural Knowledge &amp; Competence, Quantitative Literacy, and Written Communication, while developing Knowledge of Human Cultures and the Physical and Natural World.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-required-cadet-and-day-program-general-education-classes\">Required Cadet and Day Program General Education Classes<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>FSEM 101: Freshman Seminar<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>FSWI 101: Freshman Seminar Writing Intensive<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Freshman Math<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Freshman Science<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Foreign Language<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Communication &#8211; Either COMM 216, 260, or alternate for some majors<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>RPED 260: Physical Fitness, Resiliency, &amp; Wellness<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>LDRS 202: Principled Leadership in American Government<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>LDRS 371: Leadership in Organizations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Strand Courses: ENGS, NTSS, HISS, SCSS, ELES (some majors will have variations)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-and-when-to-choose-a-strand\">How and When to Choose a Strand<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Cadets and day students should decide upon a strand by the end of their freshman year. Students will be able to declare a strand under the My Citadel Portal. Students should look for a strand theme that will complement their major. This is like choosing a second major. Students should look at past strands classes to see the diverse topics that are included. Students should ultimately pick a strand theme that interests them and will make them a well-rounded job candidate.
