Greetings Citadel Friends and Newcomers!

As you know The Citadel is a place of history and a leading academic institution. To quote former CWC President Kathy Richardson Jones, when asked by interviewing faculty what, beyond the military environment, makes this institution different from other colleges and universities, the answer is always the same:

The Citadel functions as a family. People don't just come to the campus to teach or work and leave. They are part of something more. The Citadel is a unique, active, close-knit community that works together to make a difference in the lives of its students, the Lowcounty, South Carolina, the Nation and the World.

One of the key organizations that make The Citadel a family is The Citadel Women's Club. Celebrating its 57th year, The Citadel Women's Club is directly involved in many support functions of The Citadel. On its regular agenda, the group annually raises thousands of dollars in scholarship money through The Citadel Women's Club Cookbook, annual Garage sale and the Valentine's Dinner Dance & Silent Auction. The club also supports Red Cross blood drives, has a book club, and provides enriching experiences for women.

Whether you have been a member for many years or are just joining The Citadel family, I hope that you will be involved with The Citadel Women's Club activities this year. Please join us September 13th for our first annual meeting of the new school year.

See you soon!

Fran Johnson
President, 2007-2008
