| Primary Responsibilities: |
The Development Officer is part of The Citadel’s major gift team and is responsible for planning, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding a portfolio of major gift donors and prospective donors for gifts that will benefit The Citadel. |
Specific Duties Include:
- Identify, cultivate, and solicit major gift prospects for the college’s fundraising priorities.
- Manage a list of 100-150 prospects, purposefully guiding them to major investments in the college.
- Coordinate cultivation activities and solicitations involving other college representatives, including senior staff, volunteers, deans, and directors.
- Provide timely, written reports regarding the outcome of cultivation and solicitation activities.
- Conduct a minimum of 225 face-to-face calls annually and make 25 successful solicitations annually.
- Responsible for liaison duties with the School of Humanities and Social Sciences as well as the Class Reunion Campaign.
- Responsible for corporate relations.
- Responsible for assigned budget.
- Other pertinent and appropriate duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum of two years work experience in fundraising, public relations, alumni affairs, or a related field.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
- Strong communication skills: written, oral, and listening.
- Strong planning, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Motivation to travel extensively in the fulfillment of duties.
- Knowledge of personal computer-based software (i.e., word processing and spreadsheet applications).
- Ability to work as a member of The Citadel Foundation development team.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Five or more years direct experience in fundraising, advancement, or public relations, preferably in a higher education setting.
- Familiarity with The Citadel.
