The Citadel reorganizes departments into schools An academic reorganization at The Citadel has created five schools out of 14 separate departments. The Citadel Board of Visitors has approved the creation of the schools of business, education, engineering, science and mathematics, and humanities and social science. The consolidation of departments into schools should strengthen the ability of academic programs at The Citadel to attract broader support. The school designations better reflect the structure of the academic programs at The Citadel and will help those programs continue to develop. The prestige of a dean's position also gives the academic programs more clout. Assisted by Foundation staff members assigned to serve as directors of development for each school, Deans will play a key role in expanding the level of external support available for the college.
