With
the Foundation's change in mission comes a new organizational identity, one that
is designed to better reflect the role The Citadel Foundation will play as we
move forward as an institution, but also one that recognizes where we came from
and who we support-future leaders who will graduate from The Citadel!
The Citadel Foundation was created in the year 2000 to consolidate and strengthen
fundraising endeavors on behalf of the college. The new foundation was established
by combining elements of the former Citadel Development Foundation and the college's
Office of Institutional Advancement. The mission of The Citadel Foundation is
to support the full range and scope of the college's needs, which is an expansion
of the charge of the former CDF. Under the umbrella of The Citadel Foundation,
funding is secured for the college in a variety of areas including scholarships,
capital projects, academic endowments, athletic facilities, and many other areas.
The
four diamonds in the logo not only represent the quadrangle (our strong link to
the institution, our history, and our traditions), but also represent the four
cornerstones of development under the concept of "The Whole Person"- mentally,
physically, spiritually, and militarily. The chevrons signify leadership---the
Foundation's leadership in the past as well as our future leadership in securing
the resources necessary for The Citadel to uphold its proud history of producing
principled leaders for generations to come. |

Placing the emphasis on "Citadel" in our name stresses the fact that our mission
has shifted to supporting all aspects of the college, not solely academics as
in the past.
