Through the generosity of the many donors and friends listed within the pages on this site, The Citadel Foundation has been able to provide remarkable support toward the college's vision of achieving excellence in the education of principled leaders.
In March of 2006, on Corps Day, The Citadel Foundation officially kicked off the public phase of the Campaign for The Citadel, the most ambitious fundraising drive in the college's history. This $100 million campaign will provide resources to support a wide range of Citadel programs in four priority areas: Scholarship, Academic Excellence, Facilities, and Unrestricted Support.
Overall, 2006 ranked among the best fundraising years in the Foundation's history. During this period, we secured cash, pledges, and planned gift commitments totaling an astonishing $18.7 million toward our $100 million campaign goal.
In 2006, The Citadel Foundation transferred an endowment grant totaling $7,153,457 to The Citadel, along with other gifts and grants to the college of nearly $4.5 million, for overall support in excess of $11 million!
With support from the State of South Carolina accounting for approximately 18% of The Citadel's annual operating budget, the day is not far off that contributed support and endowment returns will outpace state assistance in underwriting the daily operations of the college. Such a solid financial footing is precisely the foundation The Citadel needs to secure its continued success well into the 21st century.
