COMPREHENSIVE STANDARD M2:
The governing board of the institution is responsible for the selection and the evaluation of the chief executive officer.

STATEMENT OF COMPLIANCE: The Citadel is in compliance with Comprehensive Standard M2.

RATIONALE FOR JUDGMENT OF COMPLIANCE:
By specific legislation, the South Carolina General Assembly has granted to the governing board of the institution (called the "Board of Visitors") broad powers, including the authority to "establish such regulations as it may deem necessary for the organization and good government of [the] college and establish such bylaws for the management thereof as shall not be inconsistent with the laws of this State or of the United States" (Reference 1).

In the College Regulations, the Board of Visitors confers upon itself the authority to select the President of The Citadel, the institution's chief academic officer (Reference 2).

The Board of Visitors annually evaluates the effectiveness of the President by completing the Agency Head Performance Evaluation (Reference 3). Completed evaluations are on file in the South Carolina Office of Human Resources.
