Women's Club cancels 2012 yard sale

A message from Vanya Perez, president of The Citadel Woman's Club, regarding the annual yard sale:

"Regrettably, The Citadel Women’s Club has discontinued its annual garage sale because we no longer have the capacity to run it well.

John Carter contributed immeasurably to the success and growth of the sale in recent years, and the Women’s Club recognized his efforts by naming our scholarship fund after him. Over the last ten years the Women’s Club distributed $215,000 in scholarships as a result of proceeds from the sale.

Unfortunately, after Carter’s relocation to California last year, the club was left without sufficient manpower and resources to handle the many tasks involved – from year-round gathering and pick up of items to dumpster diving, set-up and sorting in Deas Hall. Additionally, the college no longer has the space to provide us on-campus storage of merchandise and supplies.

We are disappointed to have come to this decision but the club will continue to pursue other initiatives that will serve The Citadel Family."

Achieving excellence in the education and development of principled leaders
