Women’s Club Yard Sale marks 15 years with move to bigger venue

The Citadel Women’s Club is celebrating its 15th year of bringing one of the biggest yard sales to the greater Charleston community by moving the event to a bigger and better venue.

The 2010 yard sale is from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 29 in Deas Hall, an athletic and academic facility adjacent to McAlister Field House on The Citadel campus.

The move will give the Women’s Club twice the amount of climate-controlled display space and all sale items will be located in one room with improved signage. In addition Deas Hall is fully air conditioned and has restrooms available for shoppers. Previously the yard sale was divided among indoor and outdoor locations at the college’s football stadium.

“We are so excited to offer a clean, air conditioned, spacious and well organized event this year!” said English Preston, president of the Women’s Club. “We think it will be the best sale yet.”

What is not changing are the bargains and the selection of items available for sale – from furniture, appliances and electronics to books, clothing and household goods like towels, linens, coffee pots, fans, luggage and holiday decorations. There’s also a large array of children's items, school and office supplies, and cadet items.

All proceeds from the garage sale are used to support the John S. Carter Scholarship Fund. Since 1995, more than 200 cadets have received educational assistance from the scholarship fund.
