"Through my experiences specific to The Citadel, I am fully prepared for anything that lies ahead!" – Sarah Rachel Deptula, Ph.D., pharmacist
Dr. Sarah Rachel Deptula graduated from The Citadel in 2008 with a Bachelors of Science degree in Biology and a minor in Psychology. Following graduation, she became a resident of South Carolina and worked as a research specialist at the Medical University of South Carolina in the departments of neurosciences and regenerative medicine, while gaining experience for graduate school. She went on to earn a Doctorate in Pharmacy from South University in 2013, and since has been working for Walgreens in the Charleston area. As part of the dual-degree program, she is expected to complete her Master’s in Business Administration in 2014 and has aspirations of one day owning her own pharmacy. While a cadet, Sarah was Company Corporal, BN Recruiting NCO, and Company Human Affairs Officer. She was also elected and served as Class Vice-President, Tri-Beta National Biological Society President, and BioCid Club President.
As the first and last point of contact for patients with health inquiries, pharmacists are one of the most trusted professionals. The Citadel provided an environment that afforded me the opportunity to develop the foundation I needed to conduct myself as a community leader and a professional. It also instilled the discipline I needed to conquer my ambitions. The Biology Department professors and staff truly cared about my education, and provided mentoring that was specific to my future goals. For all the opportunities I have been given, I am truly grateful. The most rewarding part of my job is that I am able to give back by providing a service to the Charleston community, but nothing beats making a connection with another graduate when they come by the pharmacy and notice the ring. Through my experiences specific to The Citadel, I am fully prepared for anything that lies ahead!
