Citadel expresses support for Virginia Tech
Members of The Citadel family gathered this week to show support for those at Virginia Tech who lost friends and loved ones during the tragic shooting on April 17. There was a service of prayer and reflection for cadets on Wednesday night and a similar service for faculty and staff on Thursday morning.
Before Friday's military dress parade, all those present paused to reflect and remember those whose lives have been affected by the shootings at Virginia Tech as the parade announcer read the following statement:
At this time the South Carolina Corps of Cadets along with the staff and faculty of The Citadel would like to express our deepest condolences for those families of the victims killed in the Virginia Tech shootings this week. With our nation’s flag at half mast, we join campuses around the world and grieve with those mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, and friends as they struggle to understand why and search for ways to move forward in their lives. We extend our heartfelt support to the members of the Virginia Tech student body as they strive to continue as a college community and focus on the future. Please join us in a moment of reflective silence.
