K-12 S.C. teacher of the year to speak at The Citadel

The Citadel will host Teacher Cadet College Day on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011, in the Greater Issues Room in Mark Clark Hall.

The program begins at 8:30 a.m. and will include a variety of presentations and activities. Patti Tate, the 2012 South Carolina Teacher of the Year, will be the Keynote Speaker at 10:25 a.m. Tate is an English teacher at Northwestern High School in Rock Hill.

Teacher cadets from Wando High School, James Island Charter High School, The Military Magnet Academy and Beaufort High School, along with their teachers, will attend Teacher Cadet College Day. Education majors from The Citadel’s Corps of Cadets and School of Education professors who partner with the high school sites also will take part.

The Teacher Cadet Program, targeting high school juniors and seniors, is one of several programs founded by the Center for Educator Recruitment, Retention, and Advancement. Established by the Commission on Higher Education in 1985, the CERRA is in its 26th year of operation, and is the oldest and most established teacher recruitment program in the country.

The Citadel has been a Teacher Cadet College Partner to several area high schools for more than two decades
