Welcome to the Citadel at Sea program! The Citadel at Sea program takes place aboard Charleston's own Spirit of South Carolina, a 140-foot, traditional sailing vessel dedicated to providing a unique educational platform for the Palmetto State. Live, sail and learn aboard the Spirit of South Carolina!


SUMMER 2018 CITADEL AT SEA PROGRAM

The Citadel is excited to offer both a Summer I and Summer II program aboard the Spirit of South Carolina! 

SUMMER I (May 21 - June 11, 2018)

COST: $4500

PORTS: 

  • Charleston, South Carolina
  • Wilmington, North Carolina
  • Norfolk, Virginia
  • Washington, D.C.

COURSES: 

  • BADM430: The Business of Military History Related to Tourism Along the Mid-Atlantic Seaboard (3 credit hours)
    Students will investiage various military history-related tourist sites in the ports we visit through interviews, collecting available data, and through observation. This information will be used to develop recommendations to make these sites more effective from a management and/or marketing standpoint which will be presented as a written report to the selected organizations. 

  • BADM 490: Independent Study in Business Tourism (3 credit hours)
    This course introduces students to the business of tourism through the collection of available data and observation.

    - OR - 

  • BADM 450: Internship in Leadership and Management in a Seagoing Organization (3 credit hours)
    Students will observe and participate in the dialy workings of an 18th century sailing ship. They will keep a daily journal of activities focusing on both management and leadership initiatives of the ship's officers as well as aspects of team, development of the crew.

COURSES: 

  • BADM430: Contemporary Issues in Marketing (3 credit hours) 
    This course introduces students to the current issues in marketing. Through a series of lectures and guided readings, students should develop a broader appreciation of the field and its foundations, plus insights into recent developments within the field. 

  • BADM490: Independent Study in Marketing Promotion (3 credit hours)
    Students will learn how to professionally document their journey aboard the ship. Video clips, interviews, b-role will be compiled and used to create a promotional video for the Citadel at Sea program.

  • BADM450: Internship in Marketing Promotion (3 credit hours) 
    Students will learn how to professionally document their journey aboard the ship. Video clips, interviews, b-role will be compiled and used to create a promotional video for the Citadel at Sea program.
