The American College of Greece

On the Global Scholars Program in Greece, students will take classes at the American College of Greece, located in Athens, and originally founded in 1875 Smyrna, Deree – The American College of Greece is the oldest American-accredited college in Europe and the largest private college in Greece. ACG is an independent, not for profit, nonsectarian, co-educational academic institution.

ACG is the largest American college or university in Europe and a truly international learning learning community. All classes at ACG are taught in English. Global Scholars take classes with degree-seeking students, in a truly immersive environment with no language barrier. ACG enrolls approximately 2,800 graduate and undergraduate students with over 450 international students from more than 67 countries. Learn more about the American College of Greece


Students participating in the Global Scholars Program will receive transfer credit from their host university. Therefore, their GPA will not be affected by courses taken during students' semesters abroad on this program. As long as students receive a C or better in their classes abroad, transfer credit will be applied to the students' transcript. The Citadel Office of Study Abroad will take care of pre-approving all course offerings from ACG for the Global Scholars Program.

In order to fulfill its objective of making study abroad feasible for all students, the total costs of the Global Scholars Program in Greece are the same as a semester of tuition and fees at The Citadel + a $500.00 program fee. Global Scholars may enroll in more than 18 credit-hours or participate in additional excurions or activities not included in the Greece program at additional cost.

The Global Scholars tuition and fees cover:

  • Round-trip airfare to and from Greece
  • Up to 18 credit-hours of courses
  • Lodging
  • Meal plan
  • Textbooks*
  • Excursions

*Textbooks are not included in the Global Scholars in Athens program, but student bills will be discounted to reflect this accordingly.
